Hint of Lavender

Spring Cleaning

I have two holidays that remind me to deep clean, memorial day and labor day. Don’t ask me why they just do. I like that twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall my house is going to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building. Gold star if you got the Annie reference.

If you’re like me cleaning is a priority, but it lands about 3rd…5th…and sometimes 10th on my list. Here is me cleaning phase trick. Try it out and see if it works for you.

Phase 1: Tidy and Organize

I go one room at a time and tidy everything. I put everything away where it belongs. Organizing containers are my best friend. I get a bunch from the dollar store. That way everything in every room of the house has a space. Office supplies? Two shelves in the office closet full of containers that are marked by category, e.g. paper, binders, small office supplies-staples, paperclips etc.

Phase 2: Dust and Polish

After phase one is complete go from room to room with a duster or two. I dust all surfaces and polish the furniture that needs polishing.

Phase3: Vacuum

Grab that vacuum and work, work, work. Totally singing Rihanna right now. Vacuum the floors, baseboards, vents, blinds, window seals and anything else the dusting couldn’t get.

Phase 4: Scrub a Dub Dub

Now after all the dust bunnies are gone, it’s time to scrub. Get a bucket full of cleaner, I prefer Mr. Clean Lavender cleaner…naturally. Again go from room to room wiping down walls, baseboards, window seals, etc. Watch your whole house will have just a hint of lavender. See what I did there.

2010 Spring Cleaning List

I know… cleaning is not my favorite thing either, but it’s a part of life. Something that helps me with this process is a Spring Cleaning Checklist. I hope this check list helps keep you motivated to spring clean this year.

Helpful Hint: Get your house smelling a bit lavender-y!
