If you’ve been following for a while, then you know we like it spicy here in the McMinn house. If you have just found Hint of Lavender welcome, you will soon learn we live a spicy life.

How many cocktail recipes can you name that ask for a simple syrup? Mojito, Whiskey Sour, Vodka Fizz, Cosmopolitan. You get the idea. Lots of drinks call for simple syrup. One way to elevate any cocktail without changing the recipe too much is to change the simple syrup.

Oh remember back a few years ago around the Holidays when I shared the sage, rosemary and thyme simple syrup? That was a great simple syrup packed full of flavor. I swear it was Thanksgiving and Christmas poured into a cocktail. Much like that simple syrup, like one is flavorful but with a punch of heat. You can used canned or jarred jalapeños, but I notice a big difference with whole jalapeños, they give you more heat and they flavor it’s as muddled.

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 whole jalapeños chopped

Directions

Bring water and sugar to a slight boil. Once all the sugar is dissolved, add the chopped jalapeños. Keep at a slight boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Let it set to room temperature. Once cooled transfer it to a pour container and store in the refrigerator. Discard unused syrup after two weeks.
